LOTHAR BRIX

Hirschberg, Germany 1939 –2021

Lothar studied art and music in Göttingen (Germany), Copenhagen and the United States. Since 1981 he has lived and worked in Worpswede and in the winter months in La Palma. A very extensive and brilliant pictorial, musical and visual career, with a great international impact and performance, which has led him to win several cultural awards.

He unites art, music, science, philosophy… always reflecting with a more emotional than analytical tone, the ideas of diversity of his environment.
He created some of his most emblematic works in Germany and on the island of La Palma.
A large-scale artistic work, practicing as a painter, sculptor and composer. During this period, the encounter with the visual territory and natural environment of the island inspired him to create material works with fugue transparencies, silences in the form of colours, fields with touches of humour and always influenced by the musical dimension.

Characterised by the use of natural materials and pigments (ground minerals, volcanic gravel, etc.), his work is marked by a deep abstraction dictated by the place where he lives, La Palma; time and again he is inspired by the richness of colour of the different shades ranging from the darkest black to ochre.
